Why We Built Yumi Tracker

Our cat Yumi has kidney disease. We needed a way to track her daily intake and habits, together.

Yumi was diagnosed with acute kidney failure a few months ago. The vet told us to watch her closely: is she eating enough, drinking water, using the litter box regularly. Any change in those habits could mean things are getting worse.

The problem is that we’re two people at home, with different schedules. One of us feeds her in the morning, the other checks in the evening. We tried a shared note, then a spreadsheet. Neither stuck.

What we actually needed

Something dead simple:

  • Log how much food is served and how much she ate
  • Note litter box visits
  • See everything on one screen, for the day

That’s it. No reminders, no gamification, no social features. Just a shared record of what happened today.

How it works

You weigh the bowl, log it. Someone checks later, updates. Litter visit? Tap and note it. The whole household sees the same timeline.

It’s a progressive web app, so it works on any phone. No app store needed.

Why make it public

We figured other people in the same situation might find it useful. Chronic kidney disease is common in cats, and the monitoring part is always the same: did they eat, did they drink, did they go to the litter box.

If that’s your situation, give it a try.
